Easy Guide to be Mindful on Social Media

This generation is the most online generation in the history of human beings. We are living in a world surrounded by high technology, smart phones, AI and social media. In this day and age we tend to have the need to post more, be more present on social platforms, posting about at least one or two things that we love or we are up to. From morning routine, a day in a life, what I eat in a day, tips and tricks or sharing information about general and personal life. The feeling of FOMO is fr!
People are glued to their phones and constantly checking on their phones every few minutes (or seconds). We are all guilty of this. We are slowly establishing some ways to make conscious decisions about being on our phones to have healthier relationships with our devices.
Here some small easy steps that you can take slowly and implement to your day to day to have healthier relationship with your online presence:
Keep your phone away in the morning and at night
Give at least half an hour to start your morning without checking your notifications switch off and replace them with morning journal, meditation, breath work, self care (gua-sha, ice rollers, brushing your teeth, getting ready/ dressed) same thing in the evening set a time blocking let say after 7:00 pm no more screen time and replace it with maybe watching your favorite show, cleaning, skincare routine or reading few pages before bed
Let yourself feel bored and try new hobby
This is probably the toughest step because as soon as we get bored we tend to reach to our favorite app and scroll. But let yourself be bored and tell yourself that “I do not need to check on my phone” or “I do not need to know what is going on” or “I don’t have the obligation to reply to everyone ASAP”. Go outside for a walk, plan to bake or cook some new recipe, read a book, declutter your space, try new sports; tennis, swimming, pickle ball or golfing etc. spend some time with your loved ones doing a yap session with no phone (hehe).
Turn off your notification & turn on your ‘Do Not Disturb’ (but ACTUALLY do it)
I know some people who turn on their ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode but still reply to messages (yes, i am talking to you). You do not have the obligation to respond immediately to a text or email (unless it’s work). Especially after hours, try to have ‘Your’ time without your devices. Or once in a while try to have a social media break log out from Instagram/ Tik Tok/ X or whatever platform you’re constantly using.
