Tell me a little bit about yourself
I’m Jordyn, 26 years old and living on the Gold Coast with my Husband and Fox Terrier X Jack Russel ‘Bruce’.
I’ve been a Vet Nurse for 10 years, and have always been a skincare enthusiast. You can normally find me outdoors with Bruce, at the gym or stuck in a good book.
What got you to start Elme Skin?
I have always had a passion for skincare. Always keen to try out the latest trends and add to my skincare collection. In 2019, I came off the birth control pill (a story for another day), and struggled with cystic Acne since. This continued for the next year and a half. It was so painful and really took a toll on my mental health. Determined to honour a more natural way of living, I didn’t want to accept that the only thing that could fix my skin issues was what was being prescribed to me at the time.
I spent SO MUCH money on skin treatments and products. It was actually during one of these treatments where I was recommended to try a new service that they were offering. They didn’t have much studies to show how it actually helped treat Acne, but were still trying to push it on me.
Throughout this time, every product I was trying was designed to help problematic skin, but was way too harsh and contained too many harmful ingredients, it was reacting with my sensitive skin. I couldn’t find anything that catered for both. I had learnt a lot about ingredients and skincare throughout this period, and knew what was being offered to me wouldn’t help me.
That was my lightbulb moment. I just thought of all the women and men that were so desperate to try everything and not seeing results. I wanted to be able to actually help.
So, I spent the next three years researching all things skin ~ Ingredients, skin conditions, and the other aspects that affect our skins health, like diet, lifestyle, hormones and mental health. I furthered my knowledge with online courses and articles covering the ins and outs of our skin, as well as chatting to experts in their field.
I trailed multiple different manufacturers until I found the right fit in Sydney, NSW, and then before I knew it I launched my first two products in 2023.
What is the common mistake that people make when cleansing their skin?
I think the most common mistake people make is not knowing their skin type when choosing a cleanser. Without knowing your skin type, you don’t know what your skin requires to be at optimal health.
What are some of your tips to properly cleanse your face?
Always double cleanse at night. This is crucial as the first cleanse doesn’t remove all of your makeup and dirt from that day. Your pores generally open up when cleansing, so going in again for a second cleanse will penetrate deeper.
Another tip is to leave your cleanser on for a few minutes before washing it off. This gives time for the ingredients to activate on your skin and do their job.
What are the don’ts when cleansing your face?
Talking for all the sensitive skin girlies (and guys), avoid foaming cleansers. If you are prone to sensitive or dry skin, foaming agents are typically too harsh for this skin type.
What is your recommended product to start off with?
I always recommend starting with the basics. You don’t need a 10-step routine to achieve healthy skin. A good Cleanser and Moisturiser is essential for any collection. Once you have a strong foundation, you can then start looking at expanding the collection.
